What is the Seventh Framework Programme ?
  FP 7 will not be “just another Framework Programme”. In its content, organisation, implementation modes and management tools, it is designed as a contribution key to the re-launched Lisbon strategy
 
On April 6th 2005 the European Commission announced its proposals for the Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) or EU research, accompanied by a Communication, 'Building the ERA of knowledge for growth' setting out the policy objectives.

For the first time in the history of the FPs, FP7 is proposed for a period of 7 years (2007-2013): 2 more years than the previous FP.
FP7 will be fully operational as on January 1st 2007.
It is designed to build on the achievements of its predecessor towards the creation of the European Research Area, and carry it further towards the development of a better knowledge of the economy and the society of Europe.
